The construction industry is one of the world’s largest contributors to carbon emissions—but what if it could be part of the solution instead?
Paebbl is proving that it can. By transforming captured CO₂ into a carbon-storing building material, Paebbl is pioneering a new way to permanently lock away emissions while creating durable, scalable, and high-performance construction materials.
Backed by $25M in Series A funding and partnerships with Amazon, Holcim, and GOLDBECK, Paebbl is scaling fast. With production hubs in Helsinki, Rotterdam, and Stockholm, and a UK expansion on the way, the company is rapidly bringing its carbon-negative construction materials to market.
Revolutionizing Carbon Storage in Construction
Paebbl’s technology is built on carbon mineralization, a natural process where CO₂ reacts with minerals to form solid rock. While this normally takes centuries, Paebbl’s proprietary technology accelerates it by a factor of ten million with minimal energy use.
In an interview with Forbes, Co-founder, Marta Sjögren explained Paebbl’s process of converting CO₂ into solid carbonate minerals by adding an oxygen atom, turning it into CO₃, which then binds with magnesium. Using water and ground silicate rocks, Paebbl produces a low-energy powder that can be used across multiple applications.
Their Supplementary Cementitious Material (SCM) can be seamlessly integrated into concrete, replacing traditional cement without compromising strength or durability. Each ton of Paebbl’s material stores up to 300 kg of CO₂, turning construction into a tool for permanent carbon sequestration.

Scaling at an Unprecedented Pace
Since its founding, Paebbl has moved from lab-scale production to full-scale pilot plants in record time:
- 2022 – Initial lab-scale production, producing grams per day
- May 2023 – In-house benchtop reactor, producing 2-3 kg per day
- Nov 2023 – Pilot plant in Rotterdam, scaling up to 200-300 kg per day
- May 2024 – First full ton of CO₂ mineralized
- 2025 – Commissioning of a continuously operating demonstration plant
Paebbl is on track to scale production another 20x in 2025, laying the groundwork for its first commercial-scale facility.
Winning the European PropTech Association Startup & Scale-up Awards 2024
Our awards every year boast 70+ international C-Level Judges. They range from investors and directors to CEOs and leading real estate change makers. It’s not an easy feat judging hundreds of companies based on their presentations alone. When the competition whittles down to the top 50, and the jury get to see the live pitches, judging scores really start to shape the final outcomes.
The road from Semi-Finalist to Winner
Paebbl represented by VP of Products Ana Luisa Vaz, first took to the stage in the center of Brussels for the Semi-Final at Arts 56. Here they were up against 49 other startups—all meticulously judged by the expert jury both remote and in-person.
After a short trip from Arts to Tour & Taxis, judges delivered their results and Paebbl had made it to the Top 10 alongside the likes of Droople, the Warming Surfaces Company, Paulinyi & Partners, Heau, Skilled Mapping, EKOTEKT and more.
Live pitches took place from the main stage of the Realty Real Estate Summit. Paebbl wowed judges on various fronts. From a technical standpoint, from the strong defense of their benefits and of course the clarity with which it was delivered to the hundreds in the audience.
It’s worth noting that the 2024 awards aligned with the principles of the New European Bauhaus – Beautiful, Sustainable, Together. Paebbl ticked all these boxes in the minds of the judges with their innovative solution, believing it will contribute hugely to a greener built environment in the future if scaled.
From CO₂ Capture to Concrete: A Fully Integrated Solution
Paebbl is not just producing sustainable materials—it’s helping industries capture, store, and reuse CO₂ on-site. Their turnkey decarbonization model means:
- Carbon capture facilities can mineralize CO₂ directly into useful materials.
- Industrial emitters without access to geological sequestration can permanently store carbon.
- Developers & builders get access to a scalable, high-performance material that reduces embodied carbon.
Paebbl’s on-site sequestration eliminates the need for costly CO₂ transport and underground storage, making it one of the most practical, scalable, and profitable solutions for carbon removal today.
Partnering with Industry Leaders for Real-World Impact
Paebbl’s vision is coming to life through collaborations with Amazon, Holcim, and GOLDBECK, who are integrating carbon-storing materials into real-world projects.
- Amazon Climate Pledge Fund: “We are excited to partner with Paebbl to advance our Climate Pledge and help decarbonize our own value chain. Paebbl’s innovative approach to CO2 sequestration in the built environment aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainability, and we believe this partnership will be instrumental in driving forward our goals” – Phoebe Wang, Amazon Climate Pledge Fund
- Holcim: “Paebbl’s technology offers a game-changing pathway to truly climate-aligned building materials.” – Nollaig Forrest, Chief Sustainability Officer, Holcim
- GOLDBECK: Pioneering carbon-storing buildings with Paebbl’s materials.
With major industrial and real estate players backing their mission, Paebbl is set to reshape the way we build.

A Future Built with CO₂
Paebbl’s breakthrough technology means that construction doesn’t have to be a climate problem — it can be part of the solution. By making CO₂ a valuable resource rather than a waste product, they are helping transform the built environment into a carbon storage powerhouse.
As the company continues its rapid scale-up, one thing is clear: the future of sustainable construction is already here — and it’s built with Paebbl.
